ZARINA BHIMJI
Cleaning the garden (1998)

The Gardens of the Alhambra, Grenada, Spain and Harewood House, Yorkshire, UK.

The history of the gardens crosses the boundery between the two worlds of science and art. Our experince of gardens and landscape architecture is a mixture of creativity and physics. It is also about relatioships between people. The idea of a dialogue between different gardens in my work acts as a metaphor for the cultures of Europe. Intertwined is the science of botany, which has been profoundly affected by advancing knowledge of chromosome structure and consequent hybridisation.
